The Difference between Personal Branding & Personal Impact
Personal Branding is the reputation and value people associate with you.
Personal Impact is how people feel, think, or act after interacting with you.
Emotional intelligence sits at the centre of both. Self-awareness helps us understand the brand we project, while empathy helps us understand the impact we have on others.
The world's strongest brands create emotional connections through consistency. People often associate them with moments, experiences, and values that matter to them. In the same way, our personal brand is shaped not only by what we do, but by the feelings and memories we leave with others.
Connecting your brand and your impact - “What shadow do you cast?”
Your personal brand is the shadow you leave behind—the reputation, consistency, and value people associate with you.
Your personal impact is the experience people have when they step into that shadow.
When your personal brand and personal impact align, your reputation becomes intentional rather than accidental.
We can only improve our brand or our impact by asking for feedback. “How did you feel after our chat last week?” – “What did you think of my presentation last week and how did I deliver it?” .
Think about 3 things you want to be known for and work them into your brand & impact.
Does my behaviour consistently reinforce them?
Do others experience them when they interact with me?
Your personal brand is your reputation in action. Your personal impact is how consistently and intentionally you create positive experiences for others.
Your brand is what remains after you leave, but your impact is what happens while you're there.
